Stained Glass is an art form in which one can create pictures out of glass. For example, I finished a custom order for a gentleman. He has two daschund dogs and wanted a picture of them in glass. He gave me one of his household rugs in order to create this picture for his wife. I drew out the pattern with help from one of my friends. Once the glass was cut and ground, I needed to fine tune grind some of the glass pieces so that each piece fit snugly with the rest to embody this picture.
I put this picture together using the copper foil method of stained glass. Once the glass pieces fit together I wrapped each piece of glass with copper foil. Copper foil is a sticky tape. The picture was then soldered together using a stained glass solder and then framed.
Below you will see a picture of the final outcome.
In January 2008, I created a panel for a local coffee company. This panel incorporates both fused glass and stained glass. I created the company's name in fused glass for the bottom of the panel. The top of the panel is in stained glass. Check it out.
In September 2008, a customer wanted the zen garden pictured in the gallery and available for purchase through the store with a beach theme. So, I changed the leaves for seashells, added blue glass instead of green, and filled the sand with seashells and adirondack chairs. What do you think?
In October 2008, a co-worker wanted a panel created of a cougar she had done as a cross stitch. The cougar was sitting simply on a branch in the cross stitch. She decided she wanted snow capped mountains in the background. I took some creative license and changed the branch to rock and added the water and the valley. It came out great!!! See it below.
In November 2008, I worked on a three dimensional piece for another co-worker. It was a Christmas present. It was a football made with Oregon State University colors and then their name across the top. I mixed two different styles of stained glass to create this piece. The football will be copper foiled and the name will be in lead. See it below.
Don't forget to check out the fused glass page. I finished a piece I copied from a magazine ad that I liked.
